Tartan Threads

Tartan Threads is our service that helps you and your loved ones preserve memories and stories to pass on and cherish for years to come. They say everyone has a story to tell and Tartan Threads is just one way to share and preserve your story, in your own words by recording an audio-only interview about your life experience.

After your initial enquiry, we will arrange a friendly, no obligations, chat to establish how we can meet your requirements. Tartan Threads can be used for many different and personal reasons; preserving family history, capturing a life event or reflecting on a chapter of your own personal journey. Whatever the reason, your story belongs to you and we never share it with anyone without your request.

We will then arrange a friendly, relaxed interview, either in the comfort of your own home, online or in a suitable private meeting space. You will be fully informed of costs and what to expect. Your interview can be one to one, or if preferred, you are welcome to have someone with you. Your comfort is paramount. We are based in Ross-shire in the Scottish Highlands and are happy to travel (within reason!) to you.

Below are some different Tartan Threads packages we offer, however if you require something a little different or we haven’t quite nailed what you are looking for, please just get in touch – we are always delighted to explore how we can help! Our Threads will be slightly edited, with an introduction added to ensure quality, without affecting the integrity of the individual’s story. You will receive your Thread, stored on a personalised wooden USB in presentation box within three weeks of recording.

‘The Heritage’ Package

Do you want to capture your family story forever? Maybe it’s for you to pass down to your children, or perhaps you would love your parents or grandparents to share their stories with you to treasure long after they’re gone. Hear how your parents met, all about their careers and/or travels. Maybe you’ll discover things about them you never knew or just have the chance to hear those much-loved tales told by them, in their voice, with their laugh, in their way. Whatever your reason, our Heritage package offers you the chance to hold on to these memories to treasure forever. Prices from £75

‘The Newly-wed’ package

Is a couple you love spending their honeymoon in the Scottish Highlands or a couple you love have just tied the knot? We will travel to meet the happy couple at an agreed location. They will be greeted with a luxury hamper full of locally selected items to enjoy together. Each partner will then enjoy a 30 minute interview where they can tell their love story in their own words and eternalise those honeymoon feelings! They will have the possibility of sharing their story, how they met and fell in love. Both their stories will be stored together, which could become a beautiful family heirloom to pass on. Alongside this, each partner will receive their spouse’s love story on their own USB to keep and treasure this moment forever and relive the happiest time of their lives over the years to come. This unique and thoughtful gift costs around £225

‘The Anniversary’ Package

Do you know a couple celebrating a big wedding anniversary this year? Maybe you are looking for a unique and special way to celebrate and cherish their anniversary. We will travel to meet the happy couple and spend 30 minutes interviewing each partner. They will each have the opportunity to tell their story of how they first met, fell in love, and reflect on their life together so far. This is a chance to remember and celebrate the journey of marriage and remind each other of when they fell in love. What a lovely way to rekindle your love by hearing your spouse’s experience of how they fell in love with you! Their stories will be stored on a USB, as well as each person receiving their spouse’s story to listen to and treasure forever on their own separate USB. This could make a wonderful family heirloom to treasure for years to come. Prices from £175

‘Your Personal Journey’ Package

Have you ever wanted to own your own story? Whether it’s for sharing and passing down or simply yours to keep, telling your story in your own words can be a great, reflective experience. Perhaps you want to find closure for a chapter in your life. Maybe you would love to journal your life, but can’t find the time. It could be for a big birthday, milestone or life event that you wish to capture whilst its fresh in your mind. It could be a one-off session, or a reoccurring process where you can tell your own story, feel heard and may even close a chapter. This 2-hour interview, allows for more time, more depth and more exploration and costs from £95

The ‘Family Time-Capsule’ Package

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to capture a moment in time to revisit in years to come? Create an Audio Family Time-capsule to do just that! By making a family Thread, you each have the chance to talk about your personal journey so far and your dreams for the future. It could be a big birthday for someone, or a turning point as a family – either way, this Time-Capsule can offer an insight into each other’s individual experiences and future hopes. Lock it away for safe keeping and listen together years down the line. This set of wooden engraved USBs can be then passed down for generations to come. Adult interviews can be one to one, however an adult must accompany a child and sign a disclaimer on their behalf. Pricing is based on £60 per person and each individual interview will last an hour. This would cost approximately £240 for a family of 4.

‘In our hearts’ memory package

This Thread is for those who have lost a loved one and would like to have a treasured keepsake to help preserve their legacy and your precious memories together. As memories fade, you will forever have an audio of you sharing your stories and your memories together, building a picture of who that person was and the impact they have had on your life. This wooden, engraved USB is to cherish and revisit or even pass on. Perhaps you would like to share your memories of a special person with someone else, helping keep your loved ones to feel connected to their friend or family member and their own heritage. You might want your children and grandchildren get to know your parents and grandparents through your storytelling, words and special moments. This 1-hour interview package costs around £75 plus an extra £30 per extra person joining in the interview (Includes their own USB keepsake)

Visiting Scotland and looking for a unique souvenir to take home?

‘Your heritage experience’ package for 2

If you are visiting The Highlands, we can meet you in an appropriate location and private meeting space where you can each spend an hour telling your story. The meeting location will be somewhere central so the other person can have a wander and explore the local area. When it's time to swap, you’ll be provided with some delightful Scottish refreshments before we continue with the next interview. You can tell the story of your life, family traditions and tales, or how you first met and fell in love! It’s your story and it’s completely up to you! Three weeks later, once you are back home and unpacked, your edited wooden pair of personalised USBs will arrive. We can arrange this according to your holiday and whereabouts, so please get in touch for a wee chat to discuss your options! This package costs around £115 for 1 person, £220 for 2 people.

The ‘Ultimate Heritage Package’ for 2

Why not combine our Tartan Threads with our Tartan Travels tours for your ultimate heritage package whilst you are in Scotland.

You will be picked up and driven to an appropriate and private meeting space, where one of you can record your hour-long interview in peace and privacy. Meanwhile your very own Tour guide can show your travel partner the local highlights in a whistle stop Tour of the area! Once they return it will then be your companion’s time to talk and you can enjoy the local sights. After you have both had the chance to tell your story and record your personal heritage, you will then have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy a 3.5 hour guided tour in a luxury vehicle. You might wish to travel to Dornoch for a spot of shopping, lunch and to see the beautiful beach! You could visit Shin Falls to watch the salmon jump or even visit the iconic Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness. We can chat about all the details and your personal interests when you get in touch to assure this bespoke service fulfils your holiday dreams! You will be dropped off back in plenty of time for dinner or other commitments.

Then, three weeks later once you're back home and unpacked, you will receive your edited USBs in their wooden personalised box as a keepsake of your own life journey and a wee something to remember your Scottish one too! Prices are approximately £685

Terms and Conditions

The Andersons' Heritage Company adhere to a strict Confidentiality Policy. Only if we are concerned about the wellbeing of you or someone else, or we are legally required to do so, would we share any of your information.

REORDERS COST £30 per person. ALL RECORDINGS WILL BE STORED SECURELY FOR 6 MONTHS AFTER YOUR ITEM HAS BEEN RECEIVED. YOUR FILE WILL THEN BE PERMINATLY DELETED. THREADS ARE ONLY KEPT FOR THIS PURPOSE AND NEVER SHARED WITH OTHERS.

These are basic prices and do not include our travel costs which will be charged at 50p per mile from Ross-shire. This will be added on to your overall cost. All prices will be confirmed prior to booking.
